Peridot has a long history of use and is the national gem of Egypt. Sometimes mistaken for emerald, the color of peridot can vary from light to dark green. While not uncommon on earth, some peridot has been found in meteorites that struck the earth. It is a birthstone for August and the stone for the 16th wedding anniversary.
